Weekly Message - September 6, 2020

Monty Hopkins

Hello MAST Families,

We start fall swimming on Tuesday, September 8.  The first three weeks practices will be shorter and will increase until we are at full schedule on September 28:

  1. Everything is subject to change, please be patient as we work through the season start-up period.
  2. Prior to beginning practice all swimmers must have submitted the MAST Return to Swim Waiver
  3. All Swimmers must come to the pool ready for Dryland (wear swimming suit under shorts and T-Shirts)
  4. Swimmers must wear gym shoes (or similar) for dryland part of practice
  5. Enter pool through front doors
  6. Put any personal items on the bleachers under the MAST record board on the blue “X’s” on the bleachers
  7. After practice exit pool through the door at the diving board end of the natatorium
  8. Parents should wait in cars to pick up swimmers after practice
  9. Equipment:  Swimmers only need swim suits, goggles, caps & water bottles until further notice
  10. Maintain proper physical distancing at all times
  11. Coaches will be working with swimmers on proper in water physical distancing
  12. Important CV-19 Note: We continue to get mixed messages on a daily basis regarding the proper behaviors for avoiding CV-19. The CDC and Health Department have stated that there is no evidence of CV-19 virus transmission through water.  Since chlorine is used as the sanitizing agent at Milford High School it can be argued that competitive swim practice might be the best possible athletic environment.
  13. The latest guideline regarding proximity and duration seem to suggest that close contact under fifteen minutes mitigates risk to a certain degree – so we will try to keep kids moving during practice.
  14. We do not want to take any unnecessary risks so we are asking everyone cooperation as we begin the season.
  15. Parents have the final say when it comes to the health of one’s own family so please monitor your children and their contacts (school, social, etc.) for any signs of infection (see Return to Swim waiver).
  16.  When in doubt, keep them out

To paraphrase Thomas Edison:  "Nearly everyone who gets involved in any activity works at it up to the point where continuing looks impossible. Most people then get discouraged. That is not the place to become discouraged. That is the place to work harder"

We will all get through this difficult time and we will be stronger!

That’s all for today.  Have a safe holiday. See you at the pool!  Go Eagles!
