Special Update – September 10, 2020 *** Please Read ***

MAST Families,

After the first two days of practices I am excited to report that everything is going better than expected.  The swimmers are adjusting to the unusual circumstances of physical distancing, wearing masks and starting at odd places in the pool.

As mentioned in the last Weekly Message we expected to be making adjustments as we adapt to both the number of swimmers and the Covid-related restrictions.  Starting with practice tomorrow (September 11, 2020) we will be making the following adjustments to the practice schedule.  Of course we may find, as we get into the season, that we can make additional accommodations.

  1. RED 1 will not have practice on Friday.
  2. RED 3 will change to Mon – Fri
  3. RED 3 will start in the water at the same time as Black 2 (see schedule)

Personal note: This is a swim team communication and not a political forum but with the mention September 11 I find myself vividly recalling the events of September 11, 2001.  It’s likely that most of our teenagers and children do not have the same perspective on that day as most adults do. I clearly remember (and still feel) the extreme shock, horror and subsequent uncertainty of that day and the weeks that followed. I also clearly recall the heroics of our nation’s citizens, first responders and leaders as we dealt with those tragic events.  With all due reverence to those who lost lives, loved ones or friends on that day I am given to think of the challenges we now face in our country. We survived the attack in 2001 and we, as a country, for a while became closer and grew stronger.  As we work through the uncertainty and trepidations of today I am confident that we Americans will again, like we did in 2001, survive and eventually thrive despite the challenges.  Remain humble, be optimistic and keep working hard – Good things are ahead for all of us, stay safe and look out for each other.

See you at the pool – Go Eagles,

Monty
