WEEKLY UPDATE - Sunday, October 29, 2023

Monty Hopkins

Hello MAST Families,                                                                                                            W/U #9 / 2023-1029

Three major items for this update

SWIM-A-THON – Saturday, November 4 is the day for the MAST Swim-A-Thon.  The Swim-A-Thon is a major fundraising program used by USASwimming swim teams across the nation to supplement the programs that clubs offer.

We are hoping for a very enthusiastic effort from all families and their swimmers this year.  The challenge for the younger swimmers will be to see how far they can swim:  There are rumors of some of our 10 & unders attempting to swim their first “mile” on Saturday (that’s 66 lengths of the pool).

For the older swimmers that target distance is 200 lengths and most will be swimming this distance straight and seeing how fast they can do it.

Please give your support to our swimmers as they take on this unique challenge.

JOSE CERDA MEET – The meet at the Marlins home pool this weekend was a little smaller than in years past, but it provided a terrific situation for MAST swimmers to get their first competition of the year.

We coaches saw numerous terrific swims, and every swimmer who competed was able to establish their start of the season times that we will now work on training overall fitness, technique, tactics, speed and other intangibles in the pursuit of season long improvement.

One very special moment happened early in the program on Sunday afternoon when Avery and Gabriella Williams were in a heat with one of the para-swimmers from the Marlins.  Not only did we witness excellent sportsmanship from most swimmers cheering for the para-swimmers throughout the meet but in this race, we watched the Williams girls make the extra effort to genuinely celebrate the effort of the young girls from the Marlins.  We can be proud to have young people of such outstanding character on MAST.

Complete results will be posted as soon as they are received from the Marlins.

Thanks to everyone who participated this past weekend.
